Frequently Asked Questions
What type of clients do you work with?
I work with adults aged 18 and over. My practice is LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent affirmative, creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all. At present, I do not work with children, couples or families.
What can I expect from the initial 30 minute call?
Our first conversation, typically via phone or Zoom, offers an opportunity for you to get a feel for my therapeutic approach and see if we’re a good match. It’s a chance for you to assess whether my style feels right for you and for me to learn about your previous therapy experience and what you’re hoping to achieve.
What does our first counselling session look like?
Before our first session, I’ll ask you to complete some forms, including your contact details, relevant medical history and GP information (for emergencies). During our first meeting, we will review these together to ensure everything is in place. We will then go through the counselling contract, which we’ll both sign to establish clear expectations and a professional, respectful foundation for our work together. After that, it’s over to you. Whatever feels important to bring, we will begin there.
How long does therapy usually last?
The length of therapy varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people find that a few sessions are enough to work through specific issues, while others may prefer longer-term support for deeper, ongoing work. Typically, we’ll begin by meeting weekly, and as you progress, we can adjust the frequency or duration of sessions to suit your needs. The decision to continue therapy is entirely up to you, and we’ll review your progress together regularly to ensure you’re getting the support you need.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel your session free of charge up to 48 hours in advance. After this, the full session fee will apply, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Is everything kept confidential?
Your privacy is my priority and everything you share is kept completely confidential. The only exceptions to this are if I believe you are at immediate risk of harm to yourself or others, in which case I may need to involve the relevant authorities. Additionally, confidentiality may be limited by legal requirements in England, including matters related to drug trafficking, terrorism, and money laundering.
What is the therapy space like?
Inner Space is based at the Cherry Tree Therapy Centre in Henley. All the rooms at Cherry Tree are warm, calm, and thoughtfully furnished to help you feel at ease. I’ll do my best to use the same room each time, so there’s a sense of consistency and familiarity.
Can I see photos of what the therapy space looks like?
Of course. Photos of the rooms are on the Cherry Tree website.
How do we set up online sessions?
If our sessions are online, I will send a Zoom link in advance of our first session. We will then keep this same link for the duration of our time together.
